EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool City Hospital Auxiliary held its annual Appreciation Luncheon for all the beautiful volunteers on Saturday, April 28, at The East Liverpool Country Club.

Crystal McGaffic, Auxiliary President, opened the luncheon by welcoming everyone and expressing that their commitment to volunteerism and to the hospital is what makes the Auxiliary shine. She expressed how each and everyone is important and appreciated. Crystal related a particular quote that resonated with her, “Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re Priceless!!!” Each volunteer shines because she gives of herself selflessly without expecting any reward or compensation and because of that the Auxiliary flourishes and is able to continue supporting the needs of the hospital.

McGaffic recognized the Auxiliary Board Members, Mary Ann Reuter, Volunteer Supervisor and cafe director and cafe staff, Laurie Kelly and Joyce Berdine. She then introduced the guest speaker, Tiffany Hartlieb, Executive Director of River Valley Physicians. Hartlieb discussed all the many great things that the hospital has done in the past year and what is in the planning stages. She also commended all the volunteers of the Auxiliary and expressed their deepest appreciation for the generous donation of $96,000 received from the Auxiliary that will benefit the Respiratory, Surgical, ICCU, and Emergency Room departments.

After lunch, McGaffic introduced Marcia Feth, First Vice-President. Feth recognized the volunteers with the most hours of service. The total of hours contributed by volunteers for 2017 was 7,236 hours and they had 13 volunteers each with over 100 hours of service. Ten were recognized along with their hours that ranged from 207 to 112 hours. The top three contributors were introduced and presented with gifts. Bev Walker had the most with 399 hours, followed by Joanne Palmer with 377 and Vera Sirianni at 309 hours.

Each year one volunteer is presented The Joan Witt Volunteer of the Year Award for their outstanding service. That person is a volunteer who has served for at least three years, is willing to perform activities beyond the service description, demonstrates exceptional commitment and has demonstrated their leadership abilities by their outstanding work ethic, loyalty and kindness to the hospital visitors and clients. Gay Ann Mossman was chosen as hospital volunteer of the year. She truly exemplifies all of these qualities and more with her sunny, beautiful disposition when she greets visitors and others at the front desk. She truly exemplifies a selfless person, always willing to go above and beyond with her commitment to make the auxiliary the best it can be.

To complete the celebration, the volunteers were entertained with selections of sweet music played on a piano by Janice Snyder accompanied by Mandy Edwards on the flute. McGaffic again thanked everyone for their service and all that helped with the luncheon. She also recognized Megan Hernandez and Feth for their outstanding efforts in decorating and organizing the luncheon.
