Tops 1341

GLENMOOR — TOPS 1341 met at Glenmoor Presbyterian Church April 16 with leader Marlene Reynolds opening with pledges. Best loser was Jane Proctor and runner-up was Judy McComas.

Drawing winners were: calorie chart, Dorothy Garn; weight loss, Darlene Naukam; 50/50, Becky Russell; junk food, Reynolds; and jackpot, Naukam. New no-nos were pretzels and potato chips.

Losing three weeks in a row were Garn, Marwynne Serafy and Darla Varney. Margaret Jackman, Patty Johnson and Varney were in the loser’s book three times. Pat Allison and Garn hold the travel boxes.

Naukam played TOPS-related “Jeopardy” for the program. Winners were Allison, Garn and Varney. Other vegetable winners were McComas and Serafy.

Cards and concerns were shared. Happy Birthday was sung to Serafy in recognition of her 95th birthday. There will be no meeting May 28, due to Memorial Day. Election of officers will be July 2. The meeting closed with The Lord’s Prayer. Interested visitors are welcome from 5-6:30 p.m. each Monday.

Calcutta Lions Club

CALCUTTA — The Calcutta Lions Club met for their regularly scheduled meeting at the Peter Metrovich Community Center on April 24, at 6:30 p.m, with 23 members in attendance. The meeting was called by King Lion Gary Freeh along with the Pledge of Allegiance being said by all members. Invocation was led by Lion Paul Metrovich.

Lion Tim Coalmer, tail twister, started the evening with asking members for “good’ things, talking about fun fact, collecting newspaper pictures fines and checking for membership pins.

Lion Sharon Hall distributed the minutes from the March 27 meeting. Coalmer made a motion to accept with it being seconded by Lion Rich Titus. Motion was carried.

Lion Joan Dodds reported our pasta dinner fundraiser was a success selling 304 dinners and thanked all members and Leos who participated.

The Duck Race is coming up Memorial Day weekend. Ducks are now on sale.

Park Clean-up was discussed and a date to begin will be selected in the near future.

Our next visitation is to the Canfield Lions Club at Ala Carte on May 3.

The Rabies Clinic will again be held at the St. Clair Township Fire Department on May 5, from noon to 2 p.m. Cost is $8 per pet. Cats must be brought in a cage and dogs on a leash.

The hot dog sale will be at Giant Eagle on June 15-16.

Lion Wayne Christen won the 50/50. Coalmer made a motion to adjourn at 7:50 p.m.

Area Seniors

EAST LIVERPOOL — Area Seniors met April 26 with a pizza party at noon. Jean Tomilson asked Lois Burris to read the Bible and the club repeated the Lord’s Prayer then members sang two verses of “America”.

Diane Carnegie gave the secretary report from last week. There were 15 in attendance which was approved.

Gail Grimm gave the treasurer’s report which was approved for audit.

A card was sent from the FISH Org. for the money which the club sent.

Martha Baxter talked about the dinner for the club. It was set for May 24.

The 50/50 was won by Ralph Samberson.

Lucy was welcomed as a guest. Suzzanne Andrews read a poem called “Be Careful”. Jana Lawrence read one called “Blessing the Aging”. Ruth Wynn read one called “Saying Her ABC’s Backwards”.

The motion to close the meeting was made by Margaret Brown and Minnie Zubay.

The club sang the evening prayer and Burris said a prayer. Then members played bingo.

The next meeting will be May 3. Anyone over 55 is welcome to join every Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephens.
