Living History

NEW CUMBERLAND — G Company 27th Virginia Infantry will perform a living history this weekend, Sept. 15-17, during the Hancock County Ole Time Fair at Tomlinson Run State Park. During the War , the 27th was the most northern Confederate unit to serve in the Army of Northern Virginia. The Stonewall Brigade formed in Wheeling, (then) Va., in 1861, by Danial Shriver, who was its 1st Company Commander and later Regimental Commander, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling. Events include military drills and firing display with authentic clothing, equipment, and weapons. A company street may be visited, complete with tents, campfire, flags and stacked weapons. Attendees can see the life of a soldier as they clean weapons, mend equipment and clothing, cook, and play a rousing game of period croquet. Take pictures. Ask questions. Absorb history.
