Lions Club celebrates charter anniversary

CALCUTTA — The Calcutta Lions Club met for their regular meeting and 42nd Charter Anniversary celebration on Aug. 8, with 32 members in attendance. King Lion Gary Freeh called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. A special thanks to Adrian’s for catering the delicious dinner.

The Pledge of allegiance was said by all. The Invocation was led by Lion Janet Christen.

Lion Tim Coalmer led tail twisting by asking members to talk about “good things”, and collecting fines for no membership pins and newspaper pictures.

Lion Sharon Hall distributed minutes from the July 11 meeting. Lion Joe Hall made a motion to accept, seconded by Coalmer. Motion was carried.

District Governor Wayne Christen was the guest speaker talking to members about membership, attending zone meetings and more.

Immediate Past President Janet Christen presented Lion Nancy Hadley with the Lion of the Year award for her hard work with the bingo program and always willing to work at anything the club has going on.

Lion Vicki Coalmer stated that the Ohio Plan is in the works and we will have orientation in the near future for all members.

Coalmer reminded members that the picnic is this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some Leos will be helping as well as Boy Scouts.

Lion Jerry Barnes thanked Lion Dawn Van Dorn for filling in for him at the nursing home with the Leos this past Sunday.

He had two Leo’s show up for the park clean up this past Saturday and he is working on getting Leo’s to the Veteran’s picnic to help.

Lion Janet stated that the Beaver Local schools is holding a Back-to-School Bash on Aug. 24 from 4-8 p.m. and during this time we will be providing eye screening. Lion Chuck Allcorn will be training us as we screen the children.

The 50/50 was won by Lion Richard Titus.

Coalmer, seconded by Lion Bob Hay made a motion to adjourn at 8:05 p.m.
