NEW CUMBERLAND — President Barbara Blackwell called the meeting of the New Cumberland Lions to order. Lion Don Greathouse offered the Prayer and Lion Don Deemer led the Pledge of Allegiance. Blackwell inducted new Lion Kelsey Hayward. She then recognized Past District Governor John Patton.

The minutes were accepted as read and the treasurer’s report was placed on file.

Lion Tom Stiles reported that eight lions participated in the Adopt-A-Highway project and collected 14 bags of litter.

Lion Bob Manypenny asked that those with food handler’s cards sign the roster and those without to take the test and obtain the card prior to participating in the pulled pork sales that begin on June 3. As a reminder, June 3 is the first pulled pork fundraiser of 2017 and will be in front of the Swaney Library in New Cumberland. The next event will be in Chester on July 4, in front of Greathouse Realty and will be selling barbecued pork sandwiches and drinks only.

Lion Jim Wells noted that the lunch fund is dwindling and will be broke after July. Suggestions made were to raise the dues to cover the shortfall or have members attending pay for the entire meal at the door with the lunch fund portion of the dues removed. Deemer made a motion with a second by Tom Tate to have members attending pay the full cost of the meal at the door.

Lion Joyce Young was given beef raffle tickets by 1st Vice District Governor Gary Pitcock. The members present at the meeting purchased all tickets. This will benefit the WV Sight Foundation.

Lion Richard Blackwell made a motion to adjourn with a second by Lions John Edwards.
