Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Presents Scholarship

WEIRTON — The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Teacher’s Sorority met June 1, at the Williams Country Club in Weirton, W.Va. The room was decorated in the patriotic theme and the members wore red, white, and blue to recognize the event. President Ruth Fuller called the meeting to order, welcomed the members, and welcomed special guests – Kay Kuzma from Cocoa Beach, Fla., and guest scholarship recipient Austin Grant and his father, Tim Grant. Hostesses for the afternoon were Bonnie Queses, Nancy Conley, and Judi Andrews.

President Fuller and Jerry DeFilippo read a patriotic poem, “Freedom Isn’t Free.”

Pat Accettolo read the June birthdays, shared the devotions entitled – “A Lesson in Community – Lessons for Living with Animals” and gave the blessing.

President Fuller and member Jerry DeFilippo presented a recognition and reinstatement ceremony welcoming Nancy Deters into the Fidelis Gamma Chapter.

Scholarship Committee Member, Twinkle Smith, introduced the Betty Shaw Scholarship recipient, Austin Grant, who is a graduate of Madonna High School in Weirton. He and his father, Tim, attended the luncheon. Members shared a “Teacher Tip” with Austin in hopes that one day he could use them in his career. President Fuller thanked the Scholarship Committee for a job well done.

The financial report was given by Carolyn Allison, four cards were read and shared by Janet Benzo, Pat Accettolo gave the Altruistic report, Janet Benzo gave the Bylaws report, and Carolyn Allison gave the Membership report. Fraternity Education Chairman, Jerry DeFilippo, reported on an issue to be voted on at the International Convention in July.

President Ruth Fuller, Carolyn Allison, and Janet Benzo gave a report on the social event hosted by the Iota Chapter at West Liberty University on April 19, 2017. The event was highlighted by introducing a partner that a member interviewed during the evening.

Members shared and enjoyed discussion on hosting the Ohio Valley Spring District Meeting held on May 6 at Froehlich’s Classic Corner in Steubenville. Special thanks was given to Jerry DeFilippo as chairman of the event.

Members voted to cancel the July 6 meeting due to the holiday on July 4 and scheduled events.

DeFilippo moved that Carol Hendon and Diane Higgins be the Fidelis Gamma Chapter delegates at the International Convention in July at New Orleans. The motion passed. Hendon shared issues to be decided at the International Convention.

Alpha Delta Kappa International Altruistic Project has set aside the date of June 21 for fund raising for the “The Longest Day” in support of Alzheimer’s Research, Care and Support. Members graciously donated a “Free Will Offering” in support of the project.

Members shared their comments and concerns for the good of the group.

Hostesses for the next meeting, Aug. 3, will be Elaine Ferrari, Mary Ann Bucci, and JoAnn Kerr. The meeting will be held at noon at Williams Country Club in Weirton.

Nancy Conley and Bonnie Queses shared their musical talents by leading the members in singing “Patriotic” selections.

The meeting closed with the singing of “The Lamp of Alpha Delta Kappa.”
