HAWKINS PAINTING

Award-winning artist Nancy Hawkins is one of the featured artists in the Lady Slippers’ Arts Festival, scheduled 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22 at the East Liverpool Country Club. Free admission, Hawkins paints “en plein air,” French for “in open air.” She has said “When painting en plein air, I am drawn into a deeper sense of the beauty of the landscape. Capturing in paint some essence of God’s handiwork is an intriguing thrill. Shapes and colors change constantly via the elements, like a kaleidoscope turning as it is held up to the light.” Hawkins received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kent State University and currently teaches plein air painting. She has participated in numerous juried art shows, including the Denver Plein Air in Colorado and the Butler Museum of American Art, where her work can be purchased in the Artist Sales Gallery. The oil painting pictured has been donated for the festival’s Chinese auction. (Submitted photo)
