LISBON — As part of the various 2017 Child Abuse Awareness Month activities sponsored by Columbiana County Children Services, the 19th annual “Caring for Kids” support dinner was held at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center in Lisbon on April 6. The theme for this year’s dinner was “Connecting for Hope.”

Among the 139 guests who attended were long-time community residents who have supported the county’s foster children for many years, County Commissioners Jim Hoppel, Tim Weigle, and Mike Halleck, and the county’s Department of Job and Family Services staff.

Guest speaker for the evening was Kathie Chaffee, Executive Director of the Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services (MHRS) Board. Prior to being named Director of the MHRS Board in 2011, Ms. Chaffee worked in outpatient mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment programming for 26 years. Her message was one of hope in the midst of difficult circumstance.

The event raised $2,451 in raffle and other donations for the county’s foster children.

The 3rd annual “Cookies for a Cause-Wrap Our Kids in Love” fundraising event will be held on Nov. 18, at The Links at Firestone in Columbiana. All proceeds will also go for the care of Columbiana County foster children.
