NORTH ELEMENTARY WINNER

Janis Pridemore, a fourth-grade teacher at North Elementary, was selected as the Columbiana County winner in a Creative Classroom contest, sponsored by WKBN-27. Her entry envisioned using the $500 prize money to create an escape room for fourth-grade students — making the learning authentic and fun at the same time was her goal for the 40-minute event. Several fourth grade groups work diligently to figure out the puzzles and other activities provided, in order to unlock the locks and gather clues. The goal is to collect enough clues, so you can determine the combination of the final lock, which simulates breaking out of the room. Currently the record is 26 minutes. Participants pictured (from left) include Nate Birch, John Weyand, Isabella Weyand, Trey Nizer, Halle Maltarich, Ayla Brown, Ryder Palmer, Sam Adams, and Haley Atwood. (Submitted photo)
