n HIGHLANDTOWN — A benefit dinner, hosted by the Southern Local boys and girls basketball programs, will take place 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the  Highlandtown Fire Hall, for the family of 9th grader Angel Johnson, whose father recently passed away after a battle with cancer. Menu includes pasta, rolls, salad, desserts, coffee, lemonade, and water. Cost by donation. A 50/50 raffle drawing available.  For information, call Coach Aaron Blatch at 330-853-1943. Proceeds go to the Johnson family to assist in the purchase of an urn for Mr. Johnson’s ashes, as well as other expenses.

n EAST LIVERPOOL — The Dawson Funeral Home, 215 West Fifth St., East Liverpool, is offering its 2017 calendars, free to the public. Calendars, available in both Protestant and Catholic styles, may be picked up 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the funeral home. For questions, contact the funeral home at 330-385-1010.

n EAST LIVERPOOL — Kent State-East Liverpool is holding a College Credit Plus information night 6 p.m. Thursday in Purinton Hall.

The information night will help area students and their families understand how to earn college credits while still in high school. Representatives from Kent State, as well as from Youngstown State University, will explain the admission criteria and application process. Area students and their families are encouraged to attend.

College Credit Plus (CCP) is a state-wide program that helps Ohio students earn college and high school credits simultaneously by taking college courses from community colleges or universities for free — meaning no cost for tuition, books or fees. (Those who choose to attend a private college or university, may have limited costs.)

Several area schools have CCP agreements with Kent State and the Columbiana County campuses. For information, call 330-385-3805.

n NEW MANCHESTER — “Breakfast with Santa” will take place 8-11 a.m. Saturday at the New Manchester Volunteer Fire Department. Cost is $5 per person. Bring a camera for pictures with Santa.

n WELLSVILLE — Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church, located off state Route 39 on Oak Ridge Road, will serve a soup and sandwich meal 4-6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Eat-in or carryout. Menu includes soup, sandwich, dessert and beverage. Cost by donation. Soup by the quart also available.

n EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool High School Band Boosters is hosting a quarter auction and chinese raffle on Friday in the ELHS cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the auction begins at 6:30. There is a $5 donation at the door, which includes a first paddle. Additional paddles are $2 each.

n NEW CUMBERLAND — Swaney Memorial Library will hold its annual “Breakfast with Santa” 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the New Cumberland VFW. Cost is $3 per breakfast or the donation of a pair of gloves or mittens. Bring a camera to get pictures with Santa.

n EAST LIVERPOOL — Bar Mill Retirees meet for breakfast 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Maxi’s.

n EAST LIVERPOOL — The Museum of Ceramics will host “Acoustic Night at the Museum” at 7 p.m. Thursday as Bob Walker and Gregg Harding perform original music and will entertain with cover songs.

Doors open at 6 p.m. so visitors may have time to view the exhibits, including two new temporary exhibits “Resplendent Rockingham” and “Lovely Lotus Ware,” prior to the performance. Admission is $5 for this event. Free for Museum or OHC members.

Both Walker and Harding are area songwriters and performers. They will perform several of Walker’s original songs, including “The Hot Dog Shop.”

Walker has a private counseling practice in East Liverpool and is adjunct faculty of psychology at Kent State-East Liverpool.

Harding is the lead singer of Bananafish and teaches at East Liverpool High School. Bananafish has a new CD of original songs, composed by Harding, that will be released soon. Harding and Walker will perform select cuts from the CD.
