Chester Lions ready for ‘Chili Cook-Off’

CHESTER — Chester Lions Club is sponsoring a chili cook-off in conjunction with Chester’s Hometown Christmas. The cook-off will be held on Dec. 3 at the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, located at 4th and Carolina Avenue. The contest, tasting, and voting are open to the public.

The winner of each category wins $75, plus an additional $100 prize for the People’s Choice Award. The entry fee to compete is $25. There are three categories: 1) Professional – restaurants, grills, and other professional food service providers; 2) Fire Departments – any full time or volunteer fire departments or their members; 3) non-professional – any home cook who thinks their chili can stand the test. Each category will be limited to five entries.

Each category will be judged by a panel of local chili “experts”. The People’s Choice winner will be the recipient of the most votes from the general public. There is no limit on the numbers of votes cast by each public attendee. Sampling for the general public cost $5 per person and includes 5 votes for the People’s Choice. Additional votes can be purchased for $1 each.

If you would like to enter your chili, or for information, contact Bob Milner at 304-387-0917 or robert.milner@verizon.net.

All proceeds benefit the Chester Lion Club and its support of local vision initiatives and other charities. For more information on the Chester Lions Club, visit our website at http://www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/chesterwv/index.php, or follow us on Facebook.
