Calcutta Lions Club

CALCUTTA – Twenty two members of the Calcutta Lions Club were present for their regularly scheduled meeting, Aug. 26 at the Peter Metrovich Community Center. King Lion Joan Dodds called the meeting to order. Lion Janet Christen led the invocation. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all. Dinner was provided by Lions Karen Tresler, Joan Dodds and Dawn VanDorn. Special guest was District Governor Barb Sorkin, who spoke to the club on increasing membership, redistricting, club visitations and the upcoming Winter Retreat in January 2015.

Guests Ruth Sullivan, Barb Fullerton and Teresa Loy from the Veteran’s Appreciation Picnic committee came to thank the Calcutta Lions Club and the Beaver Local High School Leo Club for all of their help on the picnic.

Lion Sharon Hall passed out minutes to the Aug. 12 meeting. Lion Tim Coalmer made a motion to accept the minutes. Lion Janet Christen seconded the motion. The motion was carried.

Lion Jerry Barnes told members the Leos are talking about various activities and fundraisers for the future. They had 18 freshmen join for a total of 41 Leos this year. There were 11 Leos who helped at the Appreciation picnic and 5 at Touch-A-Truck.

Lion Nancy Hadley reported she is awaiting a return call from Crossroads to have bingo Sept. 25. October will be scheduled for Calcutta Health Care. Lion George Drovdlic advised all that the next park clean up at 9 a.m. Sept. 6.

Lion Rosemary Bruehler told members she will be getting in touch with Nurse Ash for screening times at the end of October, beginning of November.

Lion Paul Metrovich reminded all that the Global Leadership is scheduled for Oct. 10-12. If you are interested, you will need to go online to the Ohio Lions website and fill out the application.

Lion Joe Hall reminded all that the 39th Charter Night is 6:30 p.m. Sept. 23 in place of the regular meeting. Cost is $13 per person. RSVP is due by Sept. 12. Entertainment will be provided by the BLHS Show Choir.

The 50-50 raffle was won by District Governor Barb Sorkin. Lion Sharon Hall made a motion to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. and was seconded by Lion Tim Coalmer. The next regular scheduled meeting will be Sept. 9.
