EAST LIVERPOOL – Master Sergeant Derek B. Thompson is retiring from the United States Air Force after 24 years, 24 days of service.
Born in East Liverpool in June 1972, where he graduated from Oak Glen High School in June 1990. He entered Air Force Basic Training on Sept. 7, 1990, and graduated technical training at Chanute AFB, Illinois in December 1990 as a Fuels Specialist. He has served in a variety of positions in the fuels career field including Section Chief, Fuels Operations, Section Chief, Fuels Information Service Center, Quality Assurance Evaluator, Superintendent, Fuels Compliance and Environmental and NCOIC of the Fuels Resource Control Center. He is closing out a career in POL which includes six assignments and numerous deployments and temporary duty assignments throughout Europe and the Middle East, most notably in support of Operations’s Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Southern Watch, and Enduring Freedom.
MSgt. Thompson has been married to Pamela L. Thomas of East Liverpool for 20 years in October. They are the parents of two children: Zachary 14 and Brett 9. He is the son of John and Sharon Sprout of Chester.
