Church plans Big Sunday Block Party

CHESTER – The leadership and members of the First Christian Church of Chester will be hosting a Neighborhood Block Party from 5-8 p.m. July 27.

This event, known as the “Big Sunday Block Party,” is staffed by approximately 45-50 volunteers from the church and will offer more than 20 activity areas for all ages. Planned for the afternoon’s activities is a dunk tank, a petting zoo, an obstacle course, inflatable bounce houses, lots of games with prizes, face painting, a photo booth, a fire truck and police patrol car, ping ping pong, cornhole tournaments, bingo, and a life-sized version of Candyland. Food and drinks will also be served, including hot dogs, walking tacos, nachos and cheese, s’mores, sno-cones, ice cream, and elephant ears. Drawings for items donated by community businesses and individuals, and a praise and worship concert will conclude the afternoon’s festivities. Last year’s block party, the first attempted by the church, drew almost 400 people from the community. There was no doubt that the leaders and members would anxiously determine this to be an annual event.

The Big Sunday Block Party will take place on the street in front of First Christian Church of Chester, 330 Indiana Ave., Chester, and in Third Street Park. Parking will be available in the lot behind the church off Louisiana Avenue. This event is open to everyone, kids and adults, and everything is absolutely free.
