EAST LIVERPOOL – East Liverpool athletic passes for the 2013-14 school year will be on sale 6-8 p.m. Aug. 7-8, 12, 14-15, 19-20 at the high school ticket office. Cost is $150 for family pass, $35 for single student pass, and $60 for single adult pass. Passes good for general admission to all school-sponsored athletic events (junior high and high school) during school year. Small photo needed for each person purchasing pass. EAST LIVERPOOL – A Second Harvest produce distribution is 2:30-4 p.m. Thursday at the Community Resource Center, Pennsylvania Avenue. This is available as part of the summer feeding program.
NEWELL – A Benefit Dinner for Stephen (Cake) Hayes is 1-7 p.m. Sunday at the Wells Building, Washington Street. (Enter at the back of the building). Cost is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children. NEW CUMBERLAND – The last open horse show, sponsored by Sundowners 4-H Saddle Club, is Sunday at 4-H Camp Aura, Ross Road. The show begins at 10 a.m. with 10 under classes including Walk-Trot, Thread the Needle, Egg and Spoon, Cloverleaf Barrels and Leadline. Trophies and ribbons to five places. At noon, open performance classes begin. These classes include Thread the Needle, Down and Back, Straight Barrels, Pole Bending, Cloverleaf Barrels and Stakebend. All of these classes are broken into age divisions (12-under, 13-17, 18-over). Cash prizes. Concession stand available. WELLSVILLE – Yellow Creek Presbyterian Church, state Route 45, is hosting a benefit baked steak dinner for Frank Joy from 4-6:40 p.m. Aug. 14. Dinner consists of baked steak, green beans, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, bread and dessert. Cost is $8 per adult and $4 for children. Carryout available.
HOOKSTOWN – A shrub hike is set 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday at Raccoon Creek State Park’s Wildflower Reserve Interpretive Center on state Route 30. Participants will discover the group of plants too small to be a tree and too big to be a wildflower. On this guided, free hike, participants will learn about the folklore, history, uses, and how to identify common shrubs.
