True North leasing Smith House from Fox family
CHESTER — The historic C.A. Smith House in Chester is set to become the new corporate headquarters for True North LLP, according to Scott Fox of The Orchards at Foxcrest.
“The Fox family purchased the C.A. Smith House in 2012, with the intent of preserving and restoring the turn of the century mansion to its original condition,” Fox said via a press release. “The Smith House had fallen into a state of disrepair and Chester was at risk of losing a landmark property that really defined the city’s history. Our family’s biggest motivation was to restore the house to the prominence it once held overlooking Rock Springs Park and the city of Chester.
“As the original plan was to operate the home as a bed and breakfast, some modern safety and functionality modifications were made to enable the house to be utilized as such. Notable upgrades to the bathrooms, kitchen, floorplan, and stairwell were all done with period sensitive design maintaining the look and feel of the original home. The other significant upgrades were the complete replacement of plumbing and electric systems and the addition of a sprinkler and alarm system. Fortunately, these upgrades and modifications were precisely what was needed to convert this building into office space.
“After speaking with Chuck (Bailey) about his need for additional office space in Chester due to True North’s rapid growth, and learning more about Chuck’s focus on our local community, I realized we had a shared vision. The CA Smith House provides an excellent hometown solution for supporting True North’s growth, and the Fox Family is pleased to find a sustainable use for the building, while supporting business development in the community. It just made sense for True North to be here.”
Charles Bailey, president of True North LLP, said “While much of True North’s business is outside the Tri-State area, we intend to focus on the local market over the next year and bring leading edge, high quality business services to local customers. The CA Smith House is the perfect setting to represent our brand and the high quality services we bring to our customers.”
True North and the Fox Family are both “committed to providing community access to the CA Smith House through hosting opportunities for civic, business, and community-based meeting and event space,” a release reads, adding “The goal is to continue to have the CA Smith House be an active part of our community for years to come.”
Renovations are scheduled to be completed this fall with True North set to occupy the home in December.
“We are grateful to the Fox family for allowing us use of the Smith house to help grow our business. Our lease agreement will preserve the legacy that the Fox family set out to create when they purchased and restored the home by continuing to make the property accessible to the community,” said Bailey.
