SRMC laboratory completes successful survey
SALEM — Salem Regional Medical Center’s Laboratory Department recently earned national recognition for service excellence by maintaining its accreditation from the College of American Pathologists.
The Laboratory was awarded the certification following a rigorous on-site inspection of its records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examined the Lab’s equipment and facilities, safety program and records, staff qualifications and overall management.
“The CAP accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest standards of care for all laboratory patients,” said Michele Perry, SRMC director of Laboratory Services. “We are proud to once again earn this distinction, which highlights our staff’s continued commitment to clinical excellence and safety.”
Widely considered the “gold standard” in laboratory quality assurance, the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is recognized by the U.S. federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program. With the accreditation, SRMC’s Lab joins a distinguished group of more than 7,700 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide that have met the highest standards of excellence.
