Taste of Amish grand opening planned for Saturday

EAST LIVERPOOL – There’s no need to drive all the way to Amish country for authentic Amish baking supplies and hand-made goods.

The newly-opened in East Liverpool, Vassar’s A Taste Of Amish offers all the Amish baking supplies any baking enthusiast could ask for, as well as a vast array of homemade Amish foods and other goods . You can come see their selection for yourself and take advantage of some special offers at their grand opening this Saturday.

A Taste of Amish is owned and operated by husband and wife Bill and Kim Vassar. The Vassar’s, who live in East Liverpool, have long enjoyed taking trips to Amish communities such as Sugar Creek, Ohio. Kim, an avid baker, says she appreciates the difference fresh Amish ingredients can make in a recipe, but was tired of driving to out-of-the-way places just to get them. She and Bill had always dreamed of opening a business together in their hometown, so the decision to open a baking supply and Amish good store seemed like a natural one.

‘There really are not any stores like this in the area that has this variety,” said Kim Vassar.

At A Taste of Amish you’ll find a full range of Amish baking supplies such as flour and corn starches. They also carry multiple type of sugars, spices and seasonings.

“If you like to make foods from scratch, we have what you need,” said Kim Vassar.

Aside from ingredients, A Taste of Amish has a “snack room” filled with all kinds of handmade Amish candies, chocolates, chips, party mixes, nuts and other snacks. They also carry many different jarred items including jams, jellies, homemade butter, and spreads. All the store’s products come from Walnut Creek Food, an Ohio-based distributor of Amish made foods.

“Everything is Amish-made from Walnut Creek Foods,” said Kim Vassar.

The Vassar’s say their current inventory is only the beginning. They plan on stocking a variety of new items once they settle in and get more feedback from customers .

“Right now, we stock what people ask about the most,” said Vassar. “It’s a great place for people who love to bake but we offer a lot of other stuff as well,” said Vassar

Vassar’s A Taste of Amish is located at 1849 Park Way near the intersection of Park Way and Anderson Boulevard. The store is open Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..

This Saturday is the grand opening. During the grand opening, if you spend $5 or more, you will receive a free pot holder or dish cloth. For more information call 330-386-0809, email them at vassar@atasteofamish.comcastbiz.net or check out their facebook page.
